From $1,000 to 25 Million: Deryl McKissack’s Trailblazing Journey Empowers Black Women in Construction

Deryl McKissack, the President and CEO of McKissack & McKissack, a construction management and design firm, started her business with $1,000 and now brings in over $25 million per year.  Overcoming challenges and obstacles, McKissack persevered and built a successful company. She is also committed to supporting and empowering other Black talent in the industry through her nonprofit organization, AEC Unites. McKissack believes that she has not "made it" until more Black people and women have made it in the industry. She hopes that her daughter, a bioengineering student, will continue the family legacy in the construction industry.

Our Thoughts

Daryl McKissack is a true trailblazer and hearing about her story and family legacy is truly insipring. To know that a family legacy continued on to creating generational wealth. Also, Deryl took the company to another level on the days she had to perform different roles herself and generating her own leads. Her story is powerful because she not only made it as proof in the pudding, but she made it clear that it is possible to stand her shoes. We Salute Daryl McKissack!
